Find me on:

With school closures happening all across the country due to the Covid-19 outbreak, millions of parents are now homeschooling their kids. For those parents having to make this adjustment, here are the top 7 tips we found to help make homeschooling a success.

  1. Make sure you have all of the necessary curricula and make outlines of it for your child’s education goals. It is important to have what you need starting out so your child can get the most out of this experience. This is a great opportunity to tailor your child's learning experience to meet their needs. Not every child learns the same way and different approaches can achieve amazing results!
  2. Create a space for your child to learn and work. Like adults, children also need a space they can associate with school and leave thereafter the “school day ends.”
  3. Take the time to sit down and discuss your plans and concerns. This time is stressful for children as well, hearing them out and deciphering what could help them deal with their stress better during this time would only be beneficial.
  4. Ease into your teaching routine. Jumping in too quickly may cause burnout and more stress than necessary for the parents and children.
  5. Plan out meals as you would if school was in session. Being prepared for snacks and lunch will save you time and stress.
  6. Schedule the day to best work with you and your children. Do not focus too much on strict schooling schedules, since both of you are very new to this it is best to approach it in a way that fits you both not a “one shoe fits all” way.
  7. Above all else, be patient with yourself and your children, you are both very new to this arrangement you must be patient with yourself, and them!
